There is a T-shirt that is more than just a piece of fabric. It is a message, a memory, and a symbol. It has become a part of the identity of Hostelling International Slovenia. You can travel the world in it or wear it at home, but wherever you go, it will gently remind you that travel is about more than just getting from point A to point B.
The in between moments – meeting someone new on a train, getting lost in the streets of an unfamiliar place, trying a local dish for the first time, or listening to a local’s story – that’s what makes travel truly special. The journey along the way is one of learning, awareness, and seeing the world with open eyes. And on this path, our T-shirt can accompany you too!
When you wear our T-shirt, you wear the idea of travel that is different, educational, and kind to the planet. About travel where you choose the train over the plane, stay in hostels and share stories with fellow travellers, buy local products and respect the communities hosting you, and think about the impact you have on the places you visit, choosing those that haven’t fallen to mass tourism.
Small changes like choosing sustainable transport, using your own water bottle, or picking a non-commercial destination are the ones that make a long-lasting difference. Since our T-shirt has become so popular and recognisable, we decided to give one to everyone who supports our fundraiser project Children’s Joy at Sea.
This is not just a shirt. It is a symbol of solidarity and belonging to a community that believes we can do more together.
The project started with a simple thought: “When we plan our next trip, we rarely stop to think about how lucky we are to be able to explore the world. Many children do not have this opportunity. Some have never even seen the sea and only dream of it.”
That is why we invite you to do something kind when planning your next trip. Instead of spending money on a souvenir, a coffee on the go, or a spontaneous snack at the airport, give a small amount to children who would not be able to afford a holiday on their own.
With your small action, we can give them a week full of laughter, play, new friendships, and memories that last a lifetime. We organise the holidays in partnership with the Slovenian Red Cross, which takes children to the seaside each year, to the youth spa and resort at Debeli Rtič. There they make new friends and enjoy a time by the sea, a feeling of being welcome, and the much-needed break they would not normally get.
